There is a conflict between humans’ need to focus on the present circumstances and their ability plan reminisce, which often results in mind wandering. Contemporary techniques with ancient roots, such as mindfulness, are useful solving some of problems associated excessive wandering but largely fail recognize importance planning reminiscing. This lack recognition means that research has by large ignored for balanced approach, incorporating both local elsewhere. Here, I scrutinize time use data classify contemporary human activities, an emphasis leisure also relevant work context. activities according temporal spatial profiles, while noting any social components involved, may further remove activity from self. A visual summary this classification indicates our whether societally imposed us or performed choice, cover full range time-and-place profiles available more less evenly. contradicts prevalent paradigm, suggesting dichotomy suggest individual differences require broad in-depth study, having potential help optimize not only well-being functioning society, be (at least partly) unnecessarily vilified.
